The National Park Zuid-Kennemerland

Enjoy and experience nature in the most breathtaking natural surprise in the Randstad: National Park Zuid-Kennemerland. This National Park is located in the heart of the metropolitan area, between Haarlem and Zandvoort, and 45 minutes from Amsterdam. The location and beauty of this 3800 acres large reserve attracts many people who enjoy hiking, cycling, horse riding and swimming. The National Park is composed of young calcerous dunes, wide beaches and lush coastel forests as well as remnants of cultural history like farms/estates, seaside villages and bunkers. Differences in soil, elevation, climate and groundwater levels in dunes provide diverse living conditions for both flora and fauna alike. While the elements, sand, rain and wind only serve to reinforce the biological dynamics of the area.

Amsterdamse Waterleidingduinen

Here you can enjoy nature, peace and space, and there is no reason to strictly stick to the paths. In other words, you can literally stroll through nature, as you please. Unfortunately you are not allowed to cycle through the area. This varied landscape is home to a unique collection of flora and fauna. There are also different animal species ranging from rodents like rabbits through to the marten family. Since 1980, foxes have successfully entered the area, and with more than 100 different varieties, birds are also well represented. The old bunkers from World War Two today offer homes to bats and there are also larger species in the area with hundreds of red deer and fallow deer. In the autumn you can hear the bucks belling. This is the magnificent sound the males make to attract female partners. And the result is plenty of young deer in the spring. Entrance is €1.50 pp. Children under 9 years of age are free.Tickets can be bought at the entrance to the dunes at the Zandvoortselaan. Dogs are not allowed.
